Hi all. As you will know from Wednesdays post I am writing the posts during the time we read the gospels while Den studies them in more depth. My name is Phil and I handle the tech side of things usually.
As I explained on Wednesday I didn’t make it all the way through the reading of the Old testament and I intend to keep up with the New. Today I have been thinking about the difference between the two and doing a bit of research.
What I came up with, or what in my opinion is the difference is that the Old Testament covenant was based on the 10 commandments which are man’s promises to God. There is nothing wrong with the 10 commandments or the old covenant, but man was unable to keep his promises to God so it didn’t work very well.
In the new covenant God said he was going to write His law on their heart and in their minds. Then he says “Their sins and their lawless deed I will remember no more”. In other words, God is going to forgive our sins and give us the ability to obey.
He did this through His son Jesus Christ who allows us a relationship with God where we can be forgiven for our inevitable sins. In Matthew’s gospel, along with the other gospels we get a better understanding of this new covenant. How it came to be and the resulting relationship that we now available to us with God.
I am reading along and did yesterdays reading, today’s and will do tomorrows. I hope you are too.
God bless
