John 10:27 says “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.“
A week today, by God’s grace, we will be in France. I had decided that after lots of preparation, I would drop some hints to Bertie who seemed to be completely oblivious to the subtle messages. This little exercise brought to mind how God communicates sometimes with us as a way of prompting us and how we respond. The correlation became more apparent and stronger as the day went on.
I had bought a French stick for breakfast. I have fond memories of being in France previously. Preferring a simple meal of warm, fresh bread and butter to the options of wonderfully adorned stick sandwiches with a vast variety of toppings. As I bit into the crunchy crust the aroma filled my senses before the taste. Delicious!
It is quite some time since studying French language at school so I was also trying to bring to remembrance any small phrases. Speaking them out unsuccessfully, Bertie was indifferent.
Later, after lunch , we were out walking. The sky was clear blue, the low winter sun had warmed through the morning chill and Bertie was stretching his legs before I went to see my friend for the afternoon. As I was out praying and talking to God, about our communication and seeking forgiveness for times when He has been dropping hints or clearer suggestions and I have been either ignorant or missed the message and hence the opportunity. Then, I hear “Go speak to the ladies over there.” The Holy Spirit prompting me. I looked behind me, and about 50 yards away, partially obscured by a wall are 2 ladies. I don’t have time, I won’t know what to say is normally my initial thought / excuse. But we are prompted for a reason. We are saved by His grace. It has nothing to do with us it is His purpose.
As I approach them, they turn to me, to offer me the opportunity to read some of their literature. It is proffered with an outstretched hand. They are Jehovah’s witnesses .
I gracefully decline their offer of literature and engage in conversation. I explained that I am a born again Christian. After telling them a few things about myself and my upcoming 3 months in France to study God’s word. “Won’t I be bothered about being alone?“ they enquire?“ No, I have The Holy Spirit with me “ I reply.
Without a critical spirit I enquire to their relationship with the living God. No trinity. How is God singular. The very passage of scripture I had been looking into, is the one that is a stumbling block to Jehovah’s witnesses.
They need to go somewhere. I encourage them to find Jesus for themselves and not follow through an organisation.
John 10:27-30, “ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Fathers hand. I and My Father are one.“
God bless!!
