The LORD said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool.” Psalm 110:1
I am often on the go. Rushing around in advance of potential coming rest. ”If I get this and that don , then there will be time for rest,” is what I often tell myself. But that is interspersed with the mission and the Holy Spirit thrives on mission. “Go!“ is the cry that is often ringing in my ears. 3 of the 4 gospels end with the great commission. Our Lord’s command for us to “Go“ in to all the nation’s…..
I’m certainly more Martha than Mary when it comes to busying around. I do aim to be more Mary like in reducing my rushing around and maybe sitting more. Taking more time at the foot of the cross, resting, learning, praying.
I thought today of the many types of sitting and seats in the Bible. From the throne of David the King, seats of the high priests, seats of power of military chiefs and heads. The throne of Solomon lined in approach by lions and great wealth. There are a multitude of seats and thrones mentioned as earthly signs and pinnacles of power for kings, judges and rulers.
There are different ways and reasons to sit or be seated. Sitting in dejection, waiting on, sitting in the gateway, sitting to eat. There are judgement seats, mercy seats, God sitting in glory. Jesus was often sitting to teach.
Zechariah 6:13 says “He shall rule upon His throne “. Psalm 11:4 “His throne is in heaven.“ Isaiah Heaven itself is His throne.“
As for me, I’ve been busy rushing around putting a second hand sofa bed in the motor-home today. I’ve cut it down from a 3 seater to about 2.5, so that its custom fit. I’ve adapted it to make a second bed too. It’s been quite a challenge, but it’s done now. I may just get a little more time to sit and rest now.
God bless
